readingWe’ve started Curbside pickup and we’re very excited to get books into your hands! 

Students inside of buildings for Classroom connections etc should also be using this method to request books and not entering the LMC right now to protect all of our patrons.

-For students to have access to library materials while virtual learning
-Students/parents can use Destiny (our online card catalog) to place holds/reserve books (online video tutorial will be made for parents and students to learn this skill)
-Parents can come during designated pickup times to retrieve their books curbside
-Books will be bagged and labeled
-Curbside returns: times will be set up for returning materials and Book Check In Procedures will be followed

When: Each day, multiple times a day, library staff will print out requests on a separate paper for each student. Pickup will occur Monday- Friday. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7-4. If there is a need for a later pickup time we will re-evaluate. 

How: Using the instructions provided, students may place holds on titles they would like to borrow from the Madison library. Right now we will not be loaning materials from other libraries for our students or our materials to students at other schools. Once pulled, an email notification will be sent to the student’s school email address letting them know their Hold request(s) have been filled with the available titles in the LMC. Unfortunately we are unable to send it to the parent(s) email addresses, so when placing holds please  be sure to check back in the students email through the District Email App on Classlink.

Students will be allowed up to 5 books. Be brave! Try new titles! If you are requesting  multiple books from the same series please know that due to high demand you may not receive all items requested.  For example, Dog Man or Elephant and Piggie  are popular series. If all 5 of your requests are various titles of Dog Man you may only receive one request. If none were available due to requests being greater than our physical copies, you may not receive any titles. Your printed books sheet will indicate if this happened.      

Where: Both the Book Return Bin and the Holds Cart will be located in the entryway to the main office in the front of the school on Carpenter Street.  Pulled items will be put together in a plastic bag or larger items may be rubber banded together. The bag will be tied shut. The students last name and first initial, as well as the request day will be written on masking tape on the outside of the bag. They will then be placed in ABC order. 

Due to limited space and high request volume on some items, student requests will remain on the cart three days before a reminder email is sent. After 1 week the items will be checked in and placed back into circulation. 

The return bin will be quarantined for 4 days (96 hours) before the library staff can handle the contents inside. A new collection/return bin will be placed in the entryway each day of the week. This means books will not be immediately taken off of your account and could take up 5 days to be removed from your name. Also, please refrain from removing the lid or any items from the book return bin when picking up items. The area is monitored so all returned items and items being picked are safe.
Please check your account! We still have MANY items out from the Spring we’d love to see again! Be considerate of others who may be waiting or interested in the titles you borrowed.
